In Conclusion.

Here are the pictures of my finished dress. I didn't adjust the mannequin for these photos so it looks a little odd and personally I thought it looked cuter on me, but I think this gives you the idea. (In case you're wondering, I took these photos last week so they're just on my phone, not on the new camera.)

Left is the headband I made for the outfit, and right is a better look at the button on the sleeve.

This is the bracelet I made for the outfit. It might be a little difficult to tell with the light reflections, but they're supposed to be like Greek coins. (The nail polish I'm wearing is Mad As A Hatter from OPI, and is truly more amazing that anyone could imagine!)

As Much As I Make Believe.

Yesterday I was doing a little shopping (hoping to find a nail polish that I was desperately...with no luck), and ended up getting a new camera. If you've read a lot of my posts, I've mentioned before I've been borrowing my dad's camera and that a new camera was on my technology wish list. I ended up buying the Nikon CoolPix S570, it was a bit of a touch decision because I'm a horrible decision maker, but I think I'll be very pleased.

Anyway, a new camera means you can expect a lot more pictures on Instinct because I won't have to track down my dad's camera every time I want to show you guys something.

It's Easter today, and I was planning to show you photos of my finished Greek dress and tell you about my next project (a dress inspired by France, it's going to be awesome.) But I'm going to hold out on that post for another day or too and just share a few things with you guys.

I realized a while ago that I had never posted about how much I love Kris Allen, so I'm sneaking him into this post as well. I rooted for him all of last season, and still get excited every time I hear him on the radio or his Ford ad comes on. The video (above) is just an awesome fan video, but if you're looking for a Kris song to listen to I suggest Can't Stay Away or his performance (to benefit Haiti) of Let It Be. You can practically hear the cuteness in his voice, am I right? If you're curious, this season I'm rooting for Lee Dewyze. I suggest listening to his rendition of Beast Of Burden.

Now, while I'm providing you with lots of music, I'll put this in too. This song is kind of surprisingly really good.

Now that you know a few of the things I'm listening to, here is what I've been wearing. I bought these sunglasses on Friday for only $5.50 from Forever21. They're really the perfect shape for my face and it was probably the best $5.50 I've ever spent. I know they won't last me forever, but sunglasses aren't something I look for longevity in because they just end up getting scratched in your purse or falling off at the water park.

Anyway, I hope everyone has a great Easter, or if you aren't celebrating, a fabulous Sunday. I'll be spending the day with family, and hopefully taking lots of photos. I'll probably post a few tomorrow.

Just A Moment.

These are pictures of the muslin for my dress. They're just camera phone pictures but I figured they'd do since this is only the muslin. My actual finished dress is due on Wednesday, which means there will be pictures of the actual dress soon. I still have a lot of work to do on it, so hopefully I'll be devoting a lot of my weekend to it! Wish me luck.

I'm Letting You In.

It's almost time for my first project to be finished, so I thought I'd give a little update. I finished the muslin on Monday (later than I hoped, but we ended up doing a project for charity too and it threw off my schedule). I started working on the actual dress Tuesday and I've made a lot of progress. I think I'll definitely me done on time (it's due next Monday), although I might be putting in some weekend hours.

I'm also working on a few accessories for the outfit which hopefully I'll be able to finish too.

Expect pictures!

You Always Get To Me.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
I really don't care much for Sundays. They go by too fast and they're too hard to enjoy since you always know it means Monday is right around the bend. At least this week can start off on a good note, it's the first full week of spring!

It was a rough winter here, but it also seems like it's getting warmer a little earlier than usual which is perfect. The prospect of sandals and florals is very exciting.

In Due Time.

I went to the mall today with a friend, I didn't want to spend a ton of money, but I had to make a few purchases. I bought a polish from OPI's new Alice In Wonderland collection. It's called Mad As A Hatter and is awesome. It's all glitter, of course the picture doesn't do it justice. (This one is a little better.)

I was hoping to find China Glaze's For Audrey, the perfect Tiffany blue, but it was nowhere to be found. I'm still on the lookout though, it's going to be the perfect spring color.

I also got a tank from the Gap. (The color isn't on the website, but it's a really nice jewel tone purple.) I looked at a lot of makeup and held back from purchasing a lot of things, but I did buy a new Two Faced Shadow Insurance, my last one lasted me forever, but I really did need another.

I can't believe my weekend is already half gone, but at least I spent a good portion of it at the mall. Tomorrow is dedicated to my sewing project (Greek outfit) and watching Funny Face.

Eternally Grateful.

One of the things I've come to enjoy the most about being in a fashion class is that I've found that being around lots of fashion lovers is a great push to look just a little bit better each day. That doesn't mean I was wearing Uggs and sweatpants prior to starting the class (I wasn't), but I do find myself putting in more effort knowing that the people who will be seeing me will appreciate it more.

It also gives me the push to be a little more adventurous. As much as I approve of the no rules in fashion philosophy, it doesn't come extremely easy to me to experiment with mixing patterns or nontraditional color combinations. I've always tried to branch myself out, but since starting the fashion program I definitely notice that I've been trying more creative outfits with pieces I already have. It's a lot easier to take those risks with people who are more likely to understand (more likely in comparison to the typical high school student.)

Today I wore a pair of floral tights and a pair of a flats with studs on the front (I posted them in my post about Marshalls last week) with a cardigan that didn't quite go and I got a lot of compliments.

I learned a while ago that every outfit will never be successful, but that taking risks and playing with what you like is always worth it. Plus, over time as you've played with the boundaries and the rules a little, you'll have fewer unsuccessful days and more days that feel like pure fashion success.
