A Bite of the Apple.

I promised to post about my trip to New York and here it is. Even if it is a tiny bit belated.

On April 8th we headed to New York the day before accepted students day at FIT. We didn't have any specific plans for Friday, but New York is too far away to get there in time on Saturday if we hadn't stayed overnight. I created my own agenda for the day, so after a long bus ride and a late lunch, I decided my priority was finding a Pinkberry. Pinkberry is the ultimate in frozen yogurt, which made it a necessity of my trip. I chose mango yogurt with strawberries, chocolate chips, and a few brownie pieces. It definitely didn't disappoint. Everything was extremely fresh, and you could try out the yogurt flavors before you made a decision. My mom didn't need to test anything out, she knew she couldn't go wrong with chocolate.

After getting Pinkberry we decided just to walk towards 5th avenue. We stopped in a few stores but I didn't want to do any major shopping, it's just fun walking around the city and taking it in. After a lot of walking we ended our night back in the hotel with pizza, Criminal Minds, and cupcakes from Crumbs. We went to Crumbs when we visited New York in the fall, and now I think it's going to be a staple of our visits. Last time I got an amazing basic vanilla cupcake, but this time I tried a Reese Cup cupcake, and it was just as great.

On Saturday I woke up and got ready for Accepted Students Day. We had a little extra time so we hit up the school bookstore beforehand. I ended up with a new sweatshirt and a new mug in my possession. After the bookstore it was time for the planned activities of the day. I got to hear from students in my major first, but my favorite parts were hearing from a panel of the presidential scholars and then taking a tour of the dorms I didn't get to see last time I was there. After our day at FIT my mom asked me if I was still sure about attending, and of course my answer was yes. It is definitely a "you know when you know" sort of situation.

Everything Looks Different.

I'm starting to realize that I really can't function when my room is a mess. It makes me significantly less productive! Which means that now that I've gotten everything back to its original tidy state, I should be getting back into the swing of things (blog wise.) Which means...a post on my trip to New York in the next few days?

PS. I really do love Coco Rocha.

Not all high school movies are created equal, but these four have something in common. They all follow characters in their senior year of high school. When I realize that I'm supposed to be the same age as some of my favorite characters, it gets a little hard for me to believe that I'm actually a senior in high school. I don't have any qualms with growing up, in fact I couldn't be more excited. But as slowly as all of my classes have dragged by, middle school seems like it was just a blink of the eye ago.

The reality of where I am in my life is a little shocking from time to time, but it also makes perfect sense. I'm attending Admitted Students Day at FIT this weekend, I can't wait to meet my future classmates and inspect the dorms. Going to school in Manhattan this fall is definitely starting to seem extremely real.

Gentle Lighting and Chanel Suits.

I've considered that maybe someone who is often compared to the devil might not be the best person to admire; however, then I realize that anyone who can show up to a movie (based on them) entitled, 'The Devil Wears Prada' whilst dressed in Prada, has got to be pretty amazing.

Everyone who still hasn't seen 'The September issue' needs to, and everyone who hasn't read this article should, and while your at it, go read this month's letter to the editor in Vogue.

As a little side note, I'd love to hear if there is anything you think I should blog about in the future! I have a few things planned (something about organization and something about applying to college) but ideas are always welcome and appreciated.

Have a lovely Sunday evening. I'll be spending mine finishing a few college forms, watching Celebrity Apprentice, and indulging in a bit of triple caramel chunk ice-cream.

The Beginning.

I started blogging as a freshman in high school. My posts have followed every fashion career aspiration that has popped into my head, I really do like to plan and daydream about the future. There is always excitement ahead of you, why not? I've been blogging all four years of high school (no matter how sporadic some months have been) and this year my posts have included more and more about college. I've expressed numerous times that my first choice would be to attend The Fashion Institute of Technology.

I finished my application in December and have been anxiously awaiting a response ever since. I heard back from all the other schools that I applied to and was seriously ready to start being able to make my plans.

This past Monday FIT posted on their facebook page that they were starting to send out acceptances. I spent everyday racing home to check the mail. On Wednesday I opened the mail to find one giant envelope...from another school.

Finally, Friday arrived. Surprisingly I hadn't thought about rushing home to get the mail until I got into my car after school. I remembered and I took my getting-the-mail route home from school. I got out of the car to grab the mail and I first spotted a giant envelope. I was excited once again until I realized it was from another school (again.) I pulled the rest of the mail out and sat it in my lap. I was starting to drive the rest of the way to my house, when the mail shifted a bit in my lap and I spotted an envelope in my lap with the FIT logo in the corner.

I pulled into my driveway and quickly turned the car off. The letter couldn't have been any thinner but I haven't been anything but confident about getting in this whole time, so I eagerly ripped it open.

I honestly could not have been any more excited when I saw that I was accepted. I was happy about getting into the other schools I applied, but those definitely didn't compare. There was lots of screaming and jumping around as I shared the news with everyone I could think of (mom, best friend, facebook friends, twitter followers, tumblr followers, etc.)

I actually can't believe it took my this long to get the news to everyone who reads my blog. Thankfully it wasn't too delayed, I scrapped what I was planning to post about so that I could let everyone share in my excitement.

It is incredibly hard to believe that in a few months I'll be living in Manhattan. I visited the campus for an open house in late October, but I'll be attending an Admitted Students Day on either April 9th or 10th. I can't wait to see everything with a new mindset (that I'll actually be attending next fall.)

Thanks for reading my drawn out story, I figured it was the best way to share the news since it has been replaying in my head the past two days. I wish you all the excitement of your wishes coming true!

Glitter Landslide.

I am trying really hard not to fall into the habit of not posting! I just wanted to put something up real quick to keep myself going. I'll be responding to comments and putting up a post on organization as soon as I can! If you have any other ideas for posts, I'd love to hear them. Maybe something about my independent study will appear in the future? Let me know, my outfit is already picked out for tomorrow which means it is time to crumple into bed for the night.

And here is my little 'positive/encouraging thing of the day': Tomorrow is Thursday, which means the week is practically over! I hope you aren't trying to get through a particularly tough week, but just in case you are, keep going. Don't underestimate staying positive. Wake up tomorrow and put on something that makes you feel pretty, there is nothing wrong with being a little overdressed.

Understated Bold.

At this point Oscars fashion for 2011 has already been covered to no end, but I just couldn't let the week pass without throwing in my thoughts.

Hailee Steinfeld was one of the first people that I saw on the red carpet and I couldn't help but fall for her dress. I love the soft tone of pink and the overall feminine look of her custom Marchesa dress. Her thin headband and the full skirt were age appropriate and couldn't have looked any better.

Reese Witherspoon never disappoints, and this year was no exception. I am all about simplicity, so this definitely hit the right note with me. The Giorgio Armani Privé dress looked perfect in her and her 60's inspired hairstyle was totally refreshing and fun for the red carpet.

Of course I saved the best for last. I absolutely loved Mila Kunis in Black Swan, so it seems fitting that my favorite dress would belong to her. I have mentioned a love for Elie Saab in the past, but this dress tops my previous favorites. I love the color, the fit, the lace, and everything else. I don't think everyone could pull this look off, but it looks just right on Mila. The dress is stunning, it is the perfect mix of whimsical and elegant, I really can't sway much else.

Which dresses were you left dreaming of after the Oscars?
